The rental turned into a six-hour breakdown incident. The vehicle would not start despite having electrical power, with the automatic transmission correctly set to P. It also displayed an overdue service warning.
I had booked Premium Protection, which is explicitly advertised as including “Free roadside assistance”. Nevertheless, I was initially told that I had to pay approximately EUR 150 in cash for towing and might be reimbursed later if the workshop determined that I had not caused the defect.
The towing invoice itself was issued to Modul EOOD, not to me.
Only after several hours and escalation at the airport office was the matter finally resolved and a replacement vehicle provided.
Drop-off of the vehicle took more than an hour due to the heavy workload and too few agents being available. In addition, the airport office was temporarily unmanned and there was no designated parking space available to return the vehicle, despite the paid airport service. I therefore had to leave the car beside the airport and wait for transportation.

I want to explicitly distinguish between Top Rent A Car’s processes and the employee at the airport office: he handled a very difficult situation professionally, stayed several hours beyond his working time, protected me from an escalating confrontation with the towing company and ultimately found a solution. My criticism is directed at the company’s assistance and escalation process, not at him.
